Treatment for irritable bowel syndrome is-

(a)Diarrhoea predominant IBS:

1.Tab.Mebeverine Hydrochloride  (135 mg) [If there is abdominal pain]
1 tab-tid (½ HBM) ———————————–1 / 2 M
OR,
Tab.Alverine  (60 mg)
1 tab-tid (½ HBM) ————————————1 / 2 M

2.Cap.Loperamide Hydrochloride (2 mg)
1 cap (AM) —————————————SOS.

3.Tab.Amitriptyline  (10/25 mg)
1 tab at night (AM) [3-4 hours before bed time] ——————————1 / 2  M

(b)Constipation predominant IBS:

1.Tab.Mebeverine Hydrochloride (135 mg) [If there is abdominal pain]
1 tab-tid (½ HBM) ———————————–1 / 2 M
OR,
Tab.Alverine  (60 mg)
1 tab-tid (½ HBM) ———————————–1 / 2 M

2. Ispaghula Husk Sachet(3.5mg)
-One sachet in 1 glass water (AM) —– 1W or more.
Or,
Syp.Lactulose
-2 tsf (AM)- bid / tid  ————————–3 M

3.Cap. Fluoxetine (20mg)
1 cap-once daily (AM) —————————————2 / 3 M
Or,
Tab. Sertraline  (50 mg)
1 tab-once daily/bid (AM) ———————————–2 / 3 M
