When to admit in HDU (High Dependency Unit):

Patient should be admitted to High dependency unit (HDU) when has one or more of the following criteria-

  1. When patient needs more detailed monitoring of important parameters (e.g. central venous pressure, direct  arterial blood pressure, intake-output chart, Glasgow Coma Scale[GCS]) than can be provided on a general ward.
  2. When patient needs support for one organ system other than invasive mechanical ventilation.
  3. When patient admitted in ICU doesn’t need to be in ICU any more but  will not be properly managed on a general ward.
