Body mass index (BMI):

Definition:

It is calculated by measuring a person’s weight in Kg and then dividing by height of that person in square meter(Kg/m²) .For example, BMI of an adult weighting 70 Kg with a height of 1.75 m is 70/ (1.75)² =22.9

Range of BMI:

Range of BMI is given below-

BMI [Weight /(height)²] Nutritional status
Less than 18.5 Underweight
18.5 – 24.9 Normal
25 -29.9 Overweight
30 – 39.9 Obese
More than 40 Extremely obese
