Excess accumulation of free fluid in peritoneal cavity is known as ascites.
Causes of ascites:
Common causes of ascites are-
- Chronic liver disease (CLD)
- Nephrotic syndrome
- Protein losing enteropathy (hypoalbuminemia).
Uncommon causes of ascites are-
- Abdominal TB
- Abdominal malignancy
- Acute pancreatitis
- Bacterial peritonitis.
